Uyyala Jampala Review

                              

The small budget romantic entertainer ‘Uyyala Jampala’ is gearing up for a release tomorrow. We have been to a pre-release screening of the movie, so we are bringing out the review for you now. Avika Gor, who essayed the role of Anandi in the serial ‘Chinnari Pellikoothuru’, is the heroine in this movie and Raj Tharun will be seen as the male lead. Virinchi Varma has directed this romantic drama.

Story :

The story of this film revolves around Suri (Raj Tharun) and Uma Devi (Avika Gor), who happen to be cousins (Bava & Maradhalu). They grow up together and have a love haterelationship of sorts. Suri takes pleasure in playing practical jokes on Uma Devi while the young lady has her own ways of taking revenge.

Uma Devi’s family is relatively well off while Suri works hard to support his mother (Anita Chowdary). Uma Devi falls in love with a crook named Pardhu and she is trapped by the sweet talking liar. Just as her life is about to take a disastrous turn, she is rescued by Suri.

After this incident, Uma and Suri discover that they admire each other deeply. However,family issues stand in their way and a marriage alliance is arranged for Uma Devi. What will Suri do? Will he muster the courage to declare his love for Uma Devi?

That forms the story of this movie.

Plus Points :

Raj Tharun is a good find for the Telugu Industry. This youngster has great talent and ease and if he plays his cards right, he has a great future ahead of him. He will be a perfect fit for certain genres and characters. Avika Gor has given a neat performance in the film. She has a certain following because of Balika Vadhu/Chinnari Pelli Koothuru serial and this will help the movie.

The biggest surprise package in the film is Punarnavi. She has given a solid performance and she looks quite good in the role of a girl who is madly in love with Suri. Anita Chowdhary and the other character actors have performed adequately.

The second half of the film has good emotions and some scenes will surely strike a chord. Nice dialogues and well conceived scenes will make you root for the characters. The pre-climax episode will melt the hearts of many.

For a small budget film, the film has very good visuals. Casting is perfect for each and every role.

Minus Points :

The first half of the film could have been better, as it fails to engage viewers as effectively as the second half does. The graph of the film is quite flat for the first 30 minutes or so.

After a stirring pre-climax block, the film comes to a very abrupt end. The climax block could have been handled in a much better way. While the songs sound good, most of them do not really help the film’s flow in any way.

The film’s appeal might be limited to A centers and multiplexes. If you are looking for hilarious comedy and ‘masala elements’, stay away.

Technical Aspects :

Cinematography is a big asset for the movie. The village locales have been shot well. Sunny’s background score is good. Editing is neat, but some scenes could have been trimmed off in the first half.

Virinchi Varma’s direction is pretty good for a first timer. Dialogues have good depth.

Verdict :

‘Uyyala Jampala’ is a small and cute little romantic film that will make you smile at the end. There are good emotional scenes and fine performances in the film that offset some of the issues like a flat first half. If you are looking for a clean family entertainer this weekend, look no further.

Biriyani Review

Karthi’s suspense thriller ”Biriyani’ has released today in Andhra Pradesh as well as Tamil Nadu. The movie has been directed by Venkat Prabhu and Hansika is the heroine. Gnanavel Raja has produced this movie on Studio Green banner. Karthi has been going through a lean run, so let us see if he can bounce back with this movie.

Story :

Sudheer (Karthi) is a handsome young fellow who has a special talent for attracting members of the opposite sex. He works in a Tractor company and gets into the good books of a wealthy industrialist named Varadarajan (Nasser).

After attending a party hosted in honour of Varadarajan, Sudheer and his friend Parasuram happen to come across a sizzling seductress named Maya (Mandy Takhar). Sudheer falls for Maya’s charms and decides to accompany her for a night of fun.

After getting drunk and wasted, all hell breaks loose when Sudheer wakes up in the morning. Maya is nowhere to be seen and Sudheer finds himself trapped in a murder case. He must now fight for his life and get out of a cleverly laid trap. He takes the help of his girlfriend (Hansika) and his buddies.

Will Sudheer succeed? What price will he have to pay to come out of this mess? That forms the story of this film.

Plus Points :

Karthi has good screen presence and he has given a neat performance in the film. He uses his natural charm to good effect in scenes where he flirts with women. Hansika looks good,though she has a very limited role. Nasser is ok as the rich industrialist.

Mandy Takhar has limited screen time but she sizzles as Maya. Premji is good in a few sequences but he has gone overboard at times. For about 15 minutes before the interval, the film picks up pace and the interval twist has been set up nicely. In the second half, suspense is maintained well for a while.

Minus Point :

Screenplay lacks conviction in the first half. There are so many pointless sequences in the first half and viewers will get the ” what the hell is going on? ” feeling a number of times. The voice used for Hansika’s dubbing does not suit the actress.

Telugu viewers will not find too many familiar faces in the film. The comedy has excessive Tamil flavour and will not appeal to everyone here. Perhaps, the makers should have used the voices of Telugu comedians for the dubbing work.

After some gripping moments in the second half, the climax of the film comes as a dampener. For regular entertainment seeking movie lovers in B and C centers, this film will not have too much appeal.

Technical Aspects :

Sakthi Saravanan’s cinematography is very mediocre. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s background score is good, but the songs are very mediocre. Editing is decent. Dialogues are very ordinary.

Venkat Prabhu’s direction is ok in places, but this is definitely not his best effort. Studio Green’s production values are good.

Verdict :

Despite having the best ingredients, a biryani will taste good only if it has been prepared lovingly, in the proper way. Sadly, that is not the case with this ‘Biriyani’. Despite having some good actors and nice performances, substandard screenplay and weak direction spoil the flavour.You will be disappointed if you go in expecting sumptuous biryani, for this offering is more like fried rice.

Dhoom 3 Review

Dhoom 3 is one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2013 and it has hit the screens today, across the world. After John Abraham in part 1 and Hrithik Roshan in part 2, it is now Aamir Khan’s turn to essay the villain’s role in this hugely successful franchise. Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Uday Chopra are the other lead actors in this action entertainer. Let us check out the film now.

Story :

The Union Bank of Chicago faces a grave threat from the very intelligent Sahir (Aamir Khan). Saahir has a personal vendetta against the bank, as his dad was put out of business and declared a bankrupt by the financial institution.

A circus artiste by profession, Sahir hits the bank hard by looting its branches. ACP Jai (Abhishek) and Ali (Uday Chopra) are brought into the picture, to put an end to Sahir’s activities.

As Jai begins zeroing in on Sahir, he discovers some unexpected things. Who is Sahir? Will he succeed in escaping from Jai? This is what ‘Dhoom 3′ is all about.

Plus Points :

This film is Aamir Khan’s one man show. Aamir has successfully pulled off two very different characters in this movie and he has performed well in the stunt sequences. There are some emotional scenes in the second half and Aamir simply steals the show here.

Abhishek Bachchan has been doing a good job as ACP Jai for quite some time now and he has delivered yet again in Dhoom 3. Uday Chopra is ok as Ali. Katrina Kaif looks incredibly hot in the film and she has performed well in the action sequences.

The film has tremendous pace in the first half, with some high voltage action sequences. The interval twist is unexpected and quite thrilling.

The film has a very lavish feel and everything has a sense of grandeur. A lot of money was spent on the film and it shows in each and every frame. The climax block has been set up nicely.

Minus Points :

Some of the stunt sequences are outlandish and unrealistic. Perhaps, they were conceived with the aim of catering to the front benchers in small towns. After a racy and explosive first half, the film slows down a bit in the second half.

Instead of high voltage action sequences, there is more of drama and sentiment in the second half.

The film’s plot is quite superficial and there is nothing much in terms of novelty, except for a few twists.

Technical Aspects :

Cinematography is a big asset for the film. The visuals look quite rich and stunning. Background music is good and helps the proceedings. Editing is very good in the first half, but could have been better in the second half.

Vijay Krishna Acharya has concentrated on coming up with a racy entertainer and he has largely succeeded. Production values of Yash Raj Films are lavish.

In this movie Rahman(Ram) wants to get his sister married and be a responsible brother. He loses both his job and house for an unsuccessful case. Luckily for him he gets a job at Balaram’s place. Balaram is a simple heated man with only one weakness he cannot tolerate lies and circumstances force Rahman to lie, a lot. How Rahman wins the loyalty of Balaram after all the comedy of errors is what the film is all about.

Venkatesh is as usual acting. Ram on the other hand simply tries to replicate the act from the original version and he is just about fine in doing so. When compared to the original Venkatesh is definitely on par with his counterpart but same can’t be said about Ram thou

Masala frame by frame from the original and is largely successful. The pace is uneven throughout with a dull moment followed by a hilarious scene. This unevenness is seen because the emotional scenes involving Ram fail to create any impact and appear to drag. Couple of songs, are unnecessary.

There are two heroines in the film Anjali and Shazahn Padamsee among the two Anjali is clearly the best and even she is given few nice emotionally appealing scenes as well. Coming to the remaining cast Jayaprakash Reddy towers over everyone else with his comic timing. Ali and MS Narayuana are seen in a full length role and they are alright. Kovai Sarala is good in few scenes but overacts in the remaining. Posani Krishna Murali does his routine act.

Doosukeltha Movie Review

Vishnu and Brahmanandam continue to bring wholesome comedy to the silver screen. They first created a trend by acting in Dhee and then recently they created another sensation with the superhit Dhenikaina Ready. Lets see will they repeat the magic again “D”..

Story:

Movie starts with Goons chasing Vishnu and voice over by Mass Maharaj RaviTeja and the movie goes back to 13 years to pitchapuram, Kota is a rich man in that village living with his join family, One fine day Rao Ramesh bring his wife and daughter and introduced to the family which is against to everyone will, Kota grand son Pitcheswara Rao and Chinna has a bet whoever win the race leave the village for 13 years, at the same time a small miss understanding between Rao Ramesh and his wife they separated and what happens after that and did they come back to pitchapuram.. you have to watch on big screen.

Performances: Manchu Vishnu, he has shown lot of maturity in his role and also his screen presence, dances, fights are definitely a plus to this movie.

Lavanya T the whole story revolves around her, she has done justice to the role and on traditional attire she looks good.

Brahma Nandam, Bharath, Raghu babu, Vennela Kishore and Hema bring lot of laughs. Ali does not have much screen presence but managed to get some laughs..

Kota Srinivas Rao, Pankaj Tripati suited their characters.

Rao Ramesh is emerging as one of the best character artists we have today. His acting is very natural and he plays his role with ease.

Music by Mani Sharma is refreshing, On the visual 3 songs are good.

Technical Values:

Visually also the songs are good. Background score provided by Mani Sharam is excellent. He lifts tempo of the movie with his style of background score before the interval.

Direction by Veeru Potla is good. He again delivers with a racy screen play along with Gopi Mohan. Some of the dialogs written by this duo in this movie are good. Production values by 24 frames are good.

Verdict:

Vishnu proved again and that he is still on the race, repeated the magic with Brahmi but this time he added more advantage to the movie and had equal presence with all the comedians.. Songs are visually good, its a definitely an entertainment movie.. Go for it.

Nandu (Jr. NTR) a happy go lucky college lad, falls in love in the first instance with Akarsha (Samantha). Nandu tracks her every moment and makes her fall in love with him. But things turn around when Nandu (Aka. Ramu) reveals his true identity to Akarsha due to some pressure from CBI officer (Rao Ramesh). Later, Amulu (Shruti Haasan) a resident of Aditya Purram tries to provide justice to local issues and falls in trouble. Seeing her nature Ramu falls in love and tries to solve her troubles. Did Ramu save her from the trouble? How did Ramu save his village people and marries the girl he loves what follows forms the crux of the story.

Jr. NTR does a decent job here. And while he doesn't get under the skin of Nandu (aka. Ramu) (lacking effort in characterization), he competes his emotions at dealing with people. Jr. NTR was not upto the mark to provide his mark grace in the songs. Samantha is fine and she exposed herself a lot in the couple of duet songs.  Its typical role for Shruti Haasan and she did well in that. New voice over to Shruti did suit her character well. Ravi Shankar is okay in his baddie character. Harish provided some good lines to Ravi Shankar’s character. Mukesh Rishi did another role of serious villain. His character need a much needed make over. Tanikella Bharini is good as father of Shruti Haasan. Rest of the characters are okay in their limited scope.

Story of Ramayya Vasthavayya is in very old format. A happy go lucky trying to take revenge on the goons who killed his love. We've seen and heard this story several times, haven't we!! And yet "Ramayya Vasthavayya" manages to impress momentarily, but where it fails is in engaging on the whole due to its extended screenplay, which clocks almost three hours. Screenplay in the film is very predictable. Comedy in the film does not tickle your funny bones. Direction is okay in first half but goes awry in the second. Cinematography by Chota K Naidu  is top-notch as he successfully translates the beauty of locations on the big screen. Music by Thaman is fine, he has copied few tunes from Telugu & Hindi songs. Dialogues in the film are mediocre. Few dialogues leave their mark as. Jeetham thesukunnevadu Jeevitham em kapaduthadu, Manishini SCHEMINCHE vadu devudu mathrame, nenu DEVUDINI kadhu scheminchadam raadhu..etc. Fights in the film are okay. Visual effects in the film are dull. Production values by Sri venkateshwara Cine Creations is good.

If you intend to see Ramayya Vasthavayya, don't. You've already seen this movie presented elsewhere with different leads like in Bunny, Rachcha, Aadhi & Samba. You already know what every scene means and what's going to come next. So when the music tells you what to feel, it is just Harish Shankar condescending to the viewers. The characters feel only a little bit of everything. They are never able to exceed feeling and touch of emotion. The crew is at it like routine. The film's biggest letdown is its dragged narration that never wants to end. And when it is finally about reach its end, we are tortured with an additional song. Ramayya Vasthavayya is not so easy to sit through until and unless you are fan.
